The Thirty Years' war
The Thirty Years' War that last from 1618 to 1648 that was a result of the conflicts between Protestants and Catholics in the Holy Roman Empire. While the war was mainly in the Empire other nations were involved due to their support of one of the groups. The Protestant Princes were supported by Denmark, Sweden, and the Dutch Republic while the Catholic Princes were supported by the Emperor, France, and Spain. Fighting between the two groups caused a high death toll on both sides. The shows how the division between Catholic and Protestant Princes weakened the unity of the Empire and its power due to the number of deaths and reparations the Empire experienced.
